A Makeup Routine that Covers Dark Undereye Circles for Black Women

Under-eye circles have impacted me since childhood.

To make matters worse, many people have always confused my mother for my sister, especially when I don’t wear makeup.

I’m unsure if it’s because I’m paranoid about my undereye circles making me look older, if my mom looks exceptionally young for her age, or if her makeup game is on point. I’m assuming it’s the latter, so I have tips to get my makeup game on point, as well as yours.

  1. Lightly layer orange concealer all over the face, especially under the eyes, with a damp beauty blender.
  1. Lightly layer and blend the yellow concealer all over the face, especially under the eyes, with the damp beauty blender.
  1. Lightly layer and blend the orange concealer on the face again, but not under the eyes. This will provide a rosy finish.
  2. Lightly layer a bisque or peach concealer all over the face, especially under the eyes, with a beauty blender.
  1. If you feel the orange is overpowering the other concealer colors, use a blue concealer / corrector to balance everything out.
  2. Lightly layer on a foundation color that matches your neck color on top of the corrector. Be sure to blend the foundation with a foundation brush and a beauty blender.
  3. Lightly layer and blend a lighter setting powder but slightly tinted, under the eyes, on the nose, the forehead, and inner cheeks, especially the center of the face, to give a glowing effect. Blend the setting powder with a damp beauty blender.
  1. Lightly layer and blend a darker setting powder on the outer cheeks and chin to give a contoured look. Do not add this setting powder color to the center of the face, only the outer edges! Blend the setting powder with a damp beauty blender.
  1. Next, lightly layer on a face powder that closely matches your neck color and foundation color, preferably the same shade as the foundation.
  2. Use the face powder that matches your foundation, used in step 7, to blend and finalize the look if needed.
  3. Use a darker but blendable face powder to contour the outer edges of the face. Do not add the darker powder to the center of the face, only the outer edges!
  1. Bonus – Add Bare Minerals tinted mineral veil powder on top of face powder.
  2. Add finishing powder
