Don’t Tell Me

Don’t tell me who I should be,

as your words do not define ME.

I can write what I want, how I want, and whenever I want.

I can dress how I dress, frown when I am down,

or sit in silence when I don't wish to talk.

But just in case you’ve FORGOTTEN,

don't tell me who I COULD be.

Because I’ve spent a VERY long time being the…

giving, supportive, hardworking,

introverted, and awkward version of ME.

Chances are you wouldn't even APPRECIATE me

Even if I DID let you DEFINE or CHANGE me!

So don't tell me who I SHOULD or COULD be

because I AM, and will ALWAYS be, the BEST version of

Me

Me

Me

  1. Love it!! When i was a kid I had a poster I bought at the book fair that said I may not be perfect, but I’m always me! I’ve lived by that. I once tried to date a boy when I was in Middle School and he told me no he didn’t want to be my boyfriend, he wrote me a big long letter saying why, and gave me advice to better myself from his point of view. He told me to wear different jeans, different shoes, not to wear my hair in a ponytail so much, to laugh at other people’s jokes even if it wasn’t funny, the list went on. Even though it hurt me for years I chased him, for years I just felt like I was never enough. Eventually I gave up on that, and just started accepting who I am, even at times I may not have the confidence that other females have, I still feel like at the end of the day God made me how I’m supposed to be. As he made you who you are supposed to be 🙂
